Navigating the Twin Transition: How SETS Empowers Social Economy Organisations for a Green and Digital Future

The Social Economy Transition Skills (SETS) project is leading a transformative effort to equip Social Economy Organisations (SEOs) with the green and digital competencies needed to thrive in the new economic era. As the EU accelerates its Digital Decade and Green Deal strategies, SETS aligns with these priorities by delivering tailored, evidence-based training to support the twin transition.

SETS identifies sector-specific skill gaps through comprehensive research, including literature reviews, focus groups, and stakeholder interviews. The project then co-designs targeted training with VET providers, digital solution companies, and SEO representatives. This participatory approach ensures that the training content meets the real needs of social enterprises facing digital and ecological change.

Green and digital skills are not just desirable—they’re essential. Whether adapting to renewable energy technologies, implementing circular economy models, or using digital tools like AI and cloud computing, SEOs must evolve their operations. SETS empowers them to do so through innovative course offerings and practical, accessible learning formats.

By leveraging partnerships with organisations like ALL DIGITAL, TIRESIA, Open Impact, and others, SETS contributes to the EU’s ambition of achieving 75% digital adoption and sustainable transformation across all industrial ecosystems. Moreover, it strengthens the resilience and competitiveness of the social economy by fostering cross-sectoral collaboration.

Through real-time impact dashboards and a rigorous evaluation framework, SETS tracks and shares its results openly, supporting policy development and encouraging the replication of effective training programmes across Europe.
